Why We Avoid Synthetic Ingredients in Dog Treats (and What We Use Instead)

🚫

Flip a treat packet over and read the ingredient list. Too often you'll see a long string of names you can't pronounce — synthetic colours, artificial flavours, chemical preservatives, and vague “mystery meat” sources.

It's frustrating. And it's exactly why Natura exists. We wanted treats that are genuinely natural — not just marketed that way.

The Problem with Synthetic Ingredients

Synthetic colours

Bright colours are for humans, not dogs. Some synthetic colours are linked to hyperactivity, allergic reactions, and digestive upset in sensitive dogs.

Artificial flavours

Artificial flavour often exists to mask low-quality ingredients. If the ingredients are good, you don't need lab-made flavourings.

Synthetic preservatives

Preservatives like BHA, BHT, and ethoxyquin extend shelf life, but many pet owners prefer to avoid unnecessary chemical exposure — especially when natural alternatives exist.

Mystery meat and by-products

“Meat meal” and “animal by-products” can hide low-quality protein sources. A transparent label should specify the meat source.

Grain fillers and added sugar

Cheap fillers and sweeteners bulk out treats without adding meaningful nutrition — and can contribute to weight gain, dental issues, and digestive upset.

What We Use Instead

  • Real meat and whole-food ingredients — simple, recognisable ingredients that serve a purpose.
  • Natural preservation — vitamin E (mixed tocopherols) and rosemary extract.
  • Certified organic standards — independently verified, with strict rules around additives.

Why This Matters for Your Dog

  • Less inflammation and fewer sensitivities
  • Better digestion and nutrient absorption
  • More stable energy and overall wellbeing
  • Peace of mind — you know what you're feeding
